Almost 50 years ago, The Bristol Channel Boat Company was created. Since then, we’ve gradually adapted to customer demands, shifting from fibreglass boats to fibreglass flat roofs and green sedum roofing and today we are known as Strandek®.

Our History
Born in a GarageStrandek® originally started out as The Bristol Channel Boat Company. Founded by Steve Bowen in 1976, the company centred around the production and manufacture of fibreglass boats to customers both nationally and internationally. |

From the Sea to the RoofThe Bristol Channel Boat Company then became Salty Yacht Productions Ltd. It was over this period that Steve really developed an expertise for fibreglass and other membrane-backed resin coating systems. |
To the Roof and Beyond…Given its waterproofing properties, durability and high strength-to-weight ratio, Steve then realised that fibreglass (GRP) was excellent as a flat roofing material. If you can make a boat out of it that keeps the water out, why not a flat roof? Fibreglass was also gaining popularity in the UK and beyond for flat roofing, so transitioning made sense. The company then became known as Strandek®, after the success of its industry-leading fibreglass technology. The rest is history… |
